Lucerne’s Old Town

Lucerne’s old town offers a captivating blend of unique charm, picturesque streets and lively plazas. Many buildings date from the Middle Ages and are decorated with ornate frescoes. Landmarks such as the Weinmarkt, the Kornmarkt and the City Hall are central to the city’s character. The charming cafés and boutiques are ideal places to relax and pass the time. The car-free zones allow you to walk through the cobbled streets at a relaxed pace and soak in the charming atmosphere.

Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke)

Chapel Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in Switzerland and one of the oldest covered wooden bridges in Europe. It was built in 1333 and connects two parts of the old town across the River Reuss. The historic triangular paintings, depicting scenes from Swiss and Lucerne history, are particularly striking. The adjacent water tower from the 13th century has served as a prison, treasury and watchtower. After the fire of 1993, the bridge was restored to its original glory.

Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre (KKL Luzern)

The Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre (KKL Luzern) is an architectural masterpiece created by the French architect Jean Nouvel. Situated directly on the shores of Lake Lucerne, the building features a striking roof that protrudes far beyond the building. It includes a concert hall with world-famous acoustics, along with event spaces and restaurants. KKL Luzern is also the main venue for the Lucerne Festival, offering top-class concerts, conferences and cultural events all year round.
